We got asked a little while ago by Surfing Magazine to string together an article outlining 11 brands that we thought we’re going to make an impact on the surf industry this year – part of Surfing’s predictions for the year. The following is what we came up with…
Walter Wellesley “Red” Smith once said “There’s nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein.” It appears Nike SB have taken the Red approach with these new Stefan Janoski kicks.
Supreme get all the good collaborational hook ups. Obviously everyone works with Vans, but Supreme get the good shit from Vans, with this latest release being a fine example. Mike Carroll released a shoe with Vans back in ’94, it was short lived – maybe because everyone was on Cab’s cab and didn’t want a piece Mike’s cab?…
What did you do over the weekend? Without sounding too rude, it hardly stacks up against what Josh Kerr did. What did he do? He won $25k for his aerial surfing (in unfortunate one foot waves) and also premiered his signature movie in Bondi to a stacked house of thirsty gentlemen and gorgeous women.
L1 are back with another collection (not sure when this dropped, but it’s the first we’ve seen of it). Following on from their debut collection last year, this years product is looking pretty nice.
“I was 14 when this came out. I would watch Archy’s section over and over. I loved how it was section based. It was like music videos but on surfing. Momentum is really influenced by this movie.”

It’s been 10 years since Cormega wrote “I erase the urge on the tip of my tongue / I taste the words a story is born, my glorious song.” A decade later and his songs are still glorious, like a gold plated grill.
