Oakley X Stussy X W-BASE
Two things that are unfortunate. 1/ I’d never heard of W-BASE before – they are bike retailer from Shibuya. 2/ I’m one of those posers that likes having a city bike that pretends to be a BMX (thanks Mike!) but can’t do anything but lame skids. Beyond that, the rest of this post is pretty interesting if you like Stussy, Oakley or BMX’s.
What Stussy have created (with the help of W-BASE) is a 26-inch cruiser style bike circa late 1970s to early 1980s – you know, something that Nicole Kidman would be proud of. Constructed from 4130CR-MO alloy (which I have no idea what that means, i’m guessing it’s a grade of alloy), with metallic blue alumite hub, rims, and other parts. A neat little ‘Ride Tough You Little Boys’ was engraved in the bike’s neck piece in traditional Sutssy font. Rounding it out was the addition of the freakin hard to get B-1b BMX grips from Oakley. This thing is pretty rad.
Available now at Stussy Japan Chapters (it’s retailing at $1200!!!) and soon at Stussy’s online store. For those that can’t afford the bike, Stussy have created a tee with the slogan ‘Ride Tough You Little Boys’ scrawled across the front of it. While the slogan might be ok on the neck of the bike, I’m not so sure I’d want to be walking around with that saying across my chest…
