Adidas. China. Should be interesting right?

The soccer boot wall looks amazing, but then I’m sucker for consistency like that – probably my OCD. The black/white color nature of Adidas is shown thruout the offices, even to some of the floor tiling. Pretty cool looking setup.

Aesop :: East Hampton Store

Aesop must have a good PR team, they’re one of the few brands who get good coverage whenever they open a new store. Probably also helps their stores are quite unique – yet also have a good consistency between locations.

This new one is in East Hampton. It’s in line with previous Aesop stores – minimal w/a focus on the product. Most stores have a unique story that’s carried thru out the store – Melbourne is card board for example. This one in East Hampton a digitally-fabricated peg board that wraps around the store and houses Aesop’s entire collection. It also doubles up as an interactive installation, with Morse code messages hidden among the holes, a nod to the Hamptons’ marine heritage.

Levi’s Workshop Store NYC

Love the amount of wood used thru all the fixtures and store displays.

Must be hard trying to open a store in NYC I’d imagine, everyone has mega budget, everyone has mega this or mega that. Have you ever walked NYC during Thanksgiving week? It’s retarded the effort stores go to… So it’s kinda refreshing looking at this store fitout from Levi’s.

Situated in SoHo, it reeks of Levi’s industrial, outdoorsy vibe – strong use of wood through out are the first thing you notice, which is great. Wood is warming. Light fixtures made from bundles of twisting rope are suspended over a denim displays set on a natural wood table featuring rough-sawn logs. Dressing rooms, inspired by Yosemite National Park, are packed with “tents” instead of stalls.

If you take a look you’ll notice the product, which seems to suggest color’d denim ain’t going nowhere…

Saturdays :: Kobe 

Saturday’s continue their global expansion (well, two countries..) by opening their second store in Japan a week ago or so… This one getting the go ahead in the up market area of Kyomachi in Kobe, Japan. Not many shots of the actual party, was kinda more keen to show shots of what the store actually looks like – more images over at HB if you want them..

The store, from the images, looks a little cleaner and perhaps has a bit more room to breathe in there then the NYC ones – Not really to sure on what to make of SNYC these days, I still really dig a lot of their product, however expensive it is, but then, I dunno.. Either way, it’s rad to see them growing and add to that a little tip of the hat that each brand throws with every new range drop. Fair to say these guys are still driving various segments of what the industry is doing/going/…..

Happy Socks Store NYC

When you think about it, NYC is probably one of the few cities you could possibly pull off opening a store for only socks. The first Happy Socks store will be opening on April 5th on West Broadway and Prince St and people can come in a buy all the socks they want – try before you buy? gross…

Interesting any way you look at it. Plus the store looks kinda cool

The Hundreds SF

The Hundreds opened their SF store five years ago. Have you ever been in it? It’s pretty impressive, not something you’d be expecting but at the same time, something you’ll enjoy. To celebrate they have a bunch of promo’s, parties and what not happening up there (much like Benny Gold right now). But this post isn’t about any of that. It’s about a look back at the construction of the store.

When the store opened five years ago, Bobby took a bunch of shots showing a timeline of sorts of the store being built – he reposted it all the other day (shit’s been lazy around this site lately). And there’s some here. Main reason we’re posting it is we like looking back as much as forward, but it’s nice to see how a store’s been built and the story behind (go have a read)

Nike SB & Civilist. 

Kinda cool seeing two brands do shit like this, Vans kinda pioneered it I think – they nailed the Thalia/Vans one and also the DQM/Vans one too..  Nice to see other brands jumping in on it (yes I know there’s more then just Nike and Vans, but I ain’t googling right now).

Civilist is a kick ass store in Berlin, been there? You should go there if not, it’s rad. This Nike SB/Civilist store is right next door to the actual Civilist store, so you shouldn’t miss it if your walking round there. Odds on you’d not be buying a whole lot of stuff if it was stocked with just SB product (shoes are rad, soft goods are ummmm), so the gents got smart and pulled in Chocolate, Girl, Diamond, Spitfire and others to round out a real nice offering…

BLVD Surf.

New store on the central coast, BLVD has been open since just before Xmas last year.

Why open a store right now? The founders both saw the area was lacking in terms of something a little more forward and left of centre, so the took the opportunity and ran with it – nice to see people still chasing the dream.

The store sits along the same lines as the Surfection Co-op’s, Fin Box, Saturdays Surf, in terms of fit out and brands, and until recently The Sugarmill. A few brands you’ll find include: Stussy, One Teaspoon, THRILLS, T.C.S.S, Tigerlily, RVCA, Epokhe, Afends, Valley, Vans, Wrangler, VSTR and O’Neill amongst others…

The inside of the store looks pretty impressive, I haven’t actually been into it – but feedback from friends who from up there give the join two thumbs up. If your around Terrigal, spin in and take a look

Globe Cabin. 

Globe‘s just opened up a neat looking flagship store in Melbourne, and it’s not exactly what you’d be expecting…

Coming across as more of a menswear store styled with a touch of skate influence, the Cabin is pretty rad. A whole of wooden fixtures welcome you upon entering, giving the joint a nice warm feeling – the shoe wall is eye catching in a nice subtle setup. Overall it’s a nice thoughtful and less consumerist manner in which the store is laid out.

Hopefully we’ll see a full range of the Globe gear we keep posting on here – Dion’s collection for example…

Nike. China. Retail. Action Sports.

I have no real idea how to report on this, but I found it interesting – hence the post. Nuts seeing how fast shit is happening in China right now, the market is huge, average income/spending is on the increase (as is costs for making stuff in China) and there’s an ASP surfing event there, top leve skate team tours (‘member D Way jumped the wall). I don’t profess to know anything about China and what’s really happening, but it’s all pretty interesting…

Anyway, enough babbling. Nike just opened a huge kick ass store in Beijing that’s dedicated to just action sports (which I think just means skate and maybe snow? to Nike these days doesn’t it?) Funnily enough, only skaters got the VIP treatment to turn up – Koston and Malto got flown over to mingle with the skate community including local pros Che Lin as well as Boss Xie, Jeremy Hu, Daniel Jason Leung, Didi Liu and Hu Jinchen.

The store mixes unique, artistic elements as well as cultural influences from the city itself to create an authentic, inviting space for the skate community. A table with tools is available for customers to fix their boards, and videos and photos help bring the sport to life throughout the store. Famed Beijing graffiti artist Li Qiuqiu created a unique painting in the store inspired by Nike SB athletes Koston, Paul Rodriguez, Omar Salazar and Che Lin (which look a little creepy).

Looks pretty good, but I was expecting more from Nike when the PR rolled into the inbox…
