After dropping the first installment last week, obviously the second one comes next. Right? Or is my math that shot?! This time we get to peek into the offices of Oakley, a company that probably has the most intimidating front entry I think I’ve seen. While walking up to these intimidating doors, I noticed an Army Tank, not knowing if anyone is in there I keep my head down and try to hide while pissing on the side of it – no worse then enemy gunfire right?
Once your in tho, it’s all happy faces and warm handshakes (or hugs!). Walk in thru the front doors – “Hi, your here for the tour? Awesome. Such an such is coming down to see you now, please take a Red Bull and sit in those aircraft fighter seats we have over there while you wait”
The lobby area is a large, open and high ceiling area. Just past the reception Oakley have around 4-6 special items on showcase, this time round they had the new Kostons and a design co-op with Ducati plus some others.. Just behind that there is an O Store that you can buy pretty much anything you want that’s O related..
But it’s beyond that things got interesting…
First door. Lens testing. The amount of R&D these guys put into the their lens technology is baffling, they shoot ballbearings, drop large metal spikes, amongst other tests onto the lenses to make sure your eyes are protected from anything and everything…
Second door. Do you ride moto? You’d wanna hope so, Oakley have a little warm up track out the back that you could nail during your lunchtime. A little 80cc would go nuts out the back for the ones who can ride. Me? I just sat there and kicked tyres, dreaming what I would do if I could ride…
Side note on the second door – the door you walk thru (which is clear) to get to the track, has a full blown army bunker set up just behind it. With a gun/cannon that works. Crazy.
Third door. History. (check the link) Oakley have set up a crazy history vault that houses all the major ‘firsts’ or crazy innovative product they have produced. The handle grips are in there, original Frogskins, models I’d rather not mention and those crazy new ones Lance uses on the tour de France.. But the highlight here is the wall. They created a wall that is plastered with historian facts and images from Oakley’s past – Elko is even in there.
Fourth door. The Toilet. This thing was impressive. Marble like floors, big guy little guy urinals, polished surfaces and an always full dunny roll of paper. I didn’t ’sit down’ so I’m not sure if the rumors are true about the seat warmers…
Oakley. Impressive offices indeed.
