So there’s a raft of athletics brands out there trying to bust into the skate, surf and snow markets. Nike, Adidas and even Puma, are throwing wads of cash at the industry. Nike SB, Nike 6.0, Nike buying Hurley. If they get traction it will only be the beginning. And there are so many for and against arguments I’m not worrying my pea brain over what’s right or wrong. I’m just going to sit on the fence like a pussy.
“But they’re not core, they’re just busting in on the pioneers’ hard work. Do they really think they’re fooling us into thinking they’re a skate brands just by putting the word ’skate’ at the end of their name?” I hear some of you say.
“It’s good for the development of our sports and they’re doing heaps of rad stuff.” I hear others shout.
I know I’m just bringing up old sauce here, so let’s look at something new…the latest Mark Gonzales Signature shoe from Adidas.
The shoe itself is from the classic Superstar mould with thick and durable materials. Mark Gonzales, who had a Nizza high model with his signature a few months back, gets yet another signature model in a simple colorway. The upper is mostly black, as the midsole, leather upper, and shell toe have some tonal differences because of the materials, with some red contrast stitching thrown in on the sole and heel. The Gonzales signature is also emblazoned in red near one of the stripes on the midfoot. Some primal looking illustrated figures appear on the white heel tab to make this a more unique release.
This model is available now at Caliroots.
