Billabong has done a deal with up and coming coming Sydney band Tom Ugly, to help produce their debut LP and support their first national tour.

You may remember Tom Ugly, formally known as the band IS as the winners of Triple J’s Unearthed High Program last year. They have been getting a heap of radio play on the J’s in the past few weeks, with the station launching their second instalment of the program.

It’s pretty cool to see a brand getting involved in the development of musical talent in Australia. Definitely more inspiring than just throwing a wad of cash at a major band to do a collaboration boardshort or tee.

Let’s hope this is the first in a few talent nurturing initiatives Billy have under their belts.
